In the course of a high-level meeting at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2026, the Government of Andhra Pradesh has reaffirmed its large-scale clean infrastructure collaboration with Brookfield Asset Management. The parties sought to review developments on the joint US$12 billion MoU that aimed at shaping the State into a global hub for sustainable energy and digital infrastructure.
Nara Lokesh, the State Minister for IT, Electronics, and Education, met with Connor Teskey, President of Brookfield Asset Management, to fast-track the implementation of the deal, which was originally signed at the CII Partnership Summit in Visakhapatnam.
A Tech-Driven Green Future
A central focus of the discussions was the development of a gigawatt-scale data center campus in Visakhapatnam. Powered entirely by clean energy, this project is a cornerstone of the state’s vision to establish “Vizag as a national data centre and digital infrastructure hub.”
The collaboration extends beyond data; both sides are exploring several cutting-edge sectors, including:
- Solar Manufacturing: Building local capacity for renewable hardware.
- Energy Storage: Creating solutions to stabilize the power grid.
- Green Hydrogen: Launching pilot projects near industrial port clusters to decarbonize heavy industry.
Boosting Local Energy Production
Part of this process involved studying large renewable energy schemes already in existence via a project named Evren, which has backing from Brookfield and Axis Energy. These involve renewable power schemes using utility-scale power generated from solar and wind power to offer cheap green power to underpin further growth in industry and digital technology in the state.
Minister Nara Lokesh was also quite optimistic on the progress and went on to say that the continued interest shown by the investment giant is a testament to the economic potential in the state.
“Brookfield’s continued commitment reflects Andhra Pradesh’s growing stature as a preferred destination for sustainable, large-scale global investments,” said Nara Lokesh, the State Minister for IT, Electronics, and Education.
This $12 billion collaboration remains one of the largest clean energy commitments in India, positioning Andhra Pradesh as a frontrunner in the global transition to a green economy.
