Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Shri Pralhad Joshi said at the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting 2026 that the real challenge of the global energy transition lies in building infrastructure that is resilient, scalable and investment-ready.
Speaking at the session “Resilient Infrastructure for Growth”, Shri Joshi highlighted India’s experience in balancing scale with system reliability. He noted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, India has achieved 267 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity as of December 2025 and remains on track to meet its 2030 clean energy targets. He said this progress has been enabled by stable policies, strong domestic manufacturing, grid modernisation, energy storage solutions, and emerging frameworks for geothermal and nuclear energy.
The Minister stressed the importance of patient capital, blended finance, and closer cooperation among governments, the private sector and multilateral development banks to enable a sustainable and inclusive global energy transition.
Sustainability at the Heart of Growth
Shri Joshi also delivered the keynote address at the roundtable “Delivering Sustainability at Scale: Pathways for Global Transformation.” He said sustainability is no longer a peripheral issue but a central driver of competitiveness, resilience and long-term economic growth. He emphasised that the defining challenge of the decade is not whether the transition should happen, but how sustainability can be delivered at scale, at speed, and in a way that strengthens economies.
Reiterating India’s commitment to net-zero emissions by 2070, the Minister said the country’s approach is guided by the principle of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam One Earth, One Family, One Future.” He added that India views sustainability as a broad economic and social transformation rather than a purely technological shift, with renewables forming the backbone of future growth.
Bilateral Engagements and Investor Outreach
On the sidelines of WEF, Shri Joshi held several bilateral meetings to strengthen international cooperation in clean energy. In talks with H.E. Dr. Said Mohammed Ahmed Al Saqri, Economic Advisor to the Deputy Prime Minister of Oman, discussions covered collaboration in solar, wind, green hydrogen, energy storage, manufacturing, hydrogen hubs and port-based export infrastructure.
The Minister also met H.E. Mr. Maxime Prévot, Deputy Prime Minister of Belgium, reaffirming strong bilateral ties, and held discussions with H.E. Subaih Abdul Aziz Al-Mukhaizeem, Minister of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy of Kuwait, on renewable energy investments.
Shri Joshi engaged with global investors including La Caisse, encouraging expanded climate investments in India, and met Ingka Group, which expressed interest in India’s solar, wind and hybrid energy sectors.
India Pavilion Highlights Investment Readiness
Shri Joshi attended the inauguration of the India Pavilion at WEF 2026, where he also launched the Green Investment Handbook titled “The India Story.” The Pavilion showcases India as a reliable, competitive and future-ready destination for global investment, aligned with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
