The BVES Energy Storage Systems Association participated in the German business delegation accompanying the exchange between German Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, gaining first-hand insights into India’s rapidly growing energy storage sector. Although the delegation did not meet the Chancellor in person, the visit offered an in-depth understanding of India’s dynamic energy storage market and facilitated exchanges with high-level stakeholders from both India and Germany.
Launch of India–German Storage Working Group
A major highlight of the visit was the official launch of the India–German Storage Working Group in Ahmedabad, under the India–Germany Platform for Investments in Renewable Energy Worldwide. This Working Group is designed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in energy storage technologies, manufacturing, integration, and financing.
BVES Energy Storage Systems Association, together with the India Energy Storage Alliance (IESA), was appointed Co-Chair of the Working Group, leveraging over a decade of close collaboration between India and Germany in the energy storage sector. The association will contribute its expertise in safety, cybersecurity, standards, and environmental protection, supporting both nations as strategic partners in advancing global energy storage initiatives.
Global Vision for Energy Storage
Commenting on the partnership, Urban Windelen, Managing Director of BVES, stated:
“If we treat energy storage as critical infrastructure, India and Germany can set global benchmarks for quality, safety, and performance.”
The event convened leading energy storage companies and high-level decision-makers, including State Secretary Jörg Semmler and Joint Secretary Rajesh Kulhari, facilitating a strong B2B2G dialogue between industry and government representatives.
The India–German Storage Working Group is expected to accelerate the deployment of advanced energy storage solutions, foster joint innovation, and expand investments in both nations. By focusing on safety, operational excellence, and strategic collaboration, India and Germany aim to set global standards in energy storage technologies and infrastructure.
BVES Energy Storage Systems Association emphasized that these exchanges signal a promising roadmap for international collaboration, sustainable development, and the future of energy storage as a critical component of global renewable energy systems.
