Coal India Limited has started a 100 MW solar power plant in Gujarat. The project got approval from Gujarat energy Development Agency and became active on march 31,2026
Previously, under a separate tender, SJVN Green Energy Limited, Coal India Limited, and SAEL Industries were awarded a 600 MW solar power project to be developed at Gujarat Industries Power Company’s Khavda solar park.
These companies were declared winners by Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited through a competitive auction for the project. The project also includes a greenshoe option for an additional 600 MW capacity. The tender was originally issued by GUVNL in July 2023.
Under the allocation, SJVN was awarded 100 MW, Coal India secured 300 MW, and SAEL was allotted 200 MW. SJVN will develop its share through its subsidiary, SGEL, with an investment of Rs 550 crore. According to reports, the selected developers are required to sign power purchase agreements (PPAs) with GUVNL within 60 days. The developers will also be responsible for connecting the plant to a 220 kV/400 kV/765 kV substation through a 33/400 kV internal pooling substation to be constructed at the solar park.
Coal India Adds Battery Storage Project in Odisha
Coal India Limited has also recently secured a battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Odisha. The company won the order from GRIDCO Limited to develop a 320 MWh BESS project with a capacity of 80 MW for four hours. The project will be implemented across two clusters in the state.
In odisha, the first battery project cluster will be in padampur and bolangir with a tariff of ₹3.04 lakh per MW per month. The second cluster in Bhatli and Basta will have a tariff of ₹3.05 lakh per MW per month.
