Highlighting Odisha’s vision to transition towards a renewable energy-led power mix and accelerate clean energy investments in the state, Shri Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister and Energy & Agriculture Minister, Government of Odisha, graced the Avaada Bharat Uday Yatra event in Bhubaneswar. Marking the arrival of the Avaada Bharat Uday Yatra van in the city, the Deputy Chief Minister performed the ceremonial ribbon-cutting and addressed citizens, students, industry representatives and community members gathered for the occasion. The Deputy Chief Minister was felicitated by Mr. Prashant Choubey, President & Head – Green Hydrogen/Ammonia Business & New Initiatives, Avaada Group.

The event was attended by senior government officials including Shri Vishal Dev, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Energy & IT Department, Government of Odisha; Shri Bhaskar Jyoti Sharma, IAS, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, OPTCL; and Dr. Satyapriya Rath, IAS, Managing Director, GRIDCO.

Organised by Avaada Group, one of India’s leading integrated energy transition conglomerates, the event forms part of the nationwide Avaada Bharat Uday Yatra, a grassroots outreach initiative aimed at fostering greater awareness and public engagement around renewable energy and sustainable living.

Addressing the gathering, Shri Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo said, “India has achieved significant strides in accelerating the clean energy transition under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. Pathbreaking initiatives such as the National Green Hydrogen Mission, PM-KUSUM, solar manufacturing incentives and ambitious renewable energy capacity targets have created a conducive ecosystem for states to attract investments and scale up clean energy deployment. As the world confronts the growing challenges of climate change, the transition towards clean and renewable sources of energy has become both an environmental necessity and an economic opportunity. Renewable energy is playing a transformative role in reducing carbon emissions, strengthening energy security and creating new avenues for investment, innovation and employment. We remain committed to supporting initiatives that promote clean energy, environmental responsibility and long-term sustainability.”

Odisha has emerged as a key destination for clean energy investments, supported by progressive policy initiatives, robust industrial infrastructure and growing opportunities across renewable energy, green hydrogen and its derivatives. The state’s long-term vision for energy transition is expected to play an important role in advancing India’s broader decarbonisation and energy security goals.

The custom-designed Yatra van, flagged off from Noida, has traversed over 4145 kms across five states and thirteen cities, engaging directly with thousands of citizens through immersive outreach activities and conversations on India’s clean energy transition.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Vineet Mittal, Chairman, Avaada Group, said, “Odisha is emerging as one of India’s most promising destinations for next-generation clean energy investments. From green ammonia and green hydrogen to large-scale renewable energy deployment, the state has the potential to become a key hub in India’s energy transition journey. Through the Avaada Bharat Uday Yatra, we are working to ensure that citizens become active participants in this transformation, helping build greater awareness and support for India’s clean energy future.”

Avaada’s growing presence in Odisha reflects the state’s emergence as a strategic hub for next-generation energy solutions, particularly in green hydrogen and green ammonia, sectors expected to play a pivotal role in India’s decarbonisation journey.

During its halt in Bhubaneswar, the Yatra featured a range of public engagement activities, including Nukkad Natak (street plays) to simplify renewable energy concepts, interactive myth-busting sessions addressing common misconceptions around clean energy, and opportunities for citizens to take a Digital Green Pledge promoting sustainable lifestyles.

Avaada is currently developing its first green ammonia project with a capacity of 0.5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) in Odisha along with huge associated RE. Avaada has secured India’s first design-stage certification for the project. The European certification agency TUV Rheinland has certified the project at its design stage, estimating its carbon intensity to be lower than the standards set by both the European Union and India for green hydrogen production.

In addition, Avaada has signed licensing and engineering agreements with a leading Switzerland-based ammonia process licensor, and the Basic Engineering Design (BED) phase is currently in progress. Avaada also holds required ISTS GNA for RE as well as first of its kind energy banking agreement in odisha. Avaada also has an agreement for setting up the Green Hydrogen-Centre of Excellence in collaboration with GRIDCO and IIT Bhubaneshwar.
