The Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) have officially signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly develop 300 MW of solar-based renewable energy projects across DRDO campuses nationwide. This strategic collaboration marks a significant step toward accelerating India’s clean energy transition and strengthening energy self-reliance within the defence sector.
The MoU exchange ceremony took place at DRDO Bhawan, New Delhi, in the presence of Dr. Samir V. Kamat, Secretary, Department of Defence R&D and Chairman, DRDO, and Santosh Kumar Sarangi, IAS, Secretary, Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE). The agreement signifies a major inter-ministerial collaboration between the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy.
This partnership aligns with DRDO’s vision of establishing self-reliant, net-zero energy campuses by 2027 at strategic locations across India. It also reflects the government’s broader commitment to achieving sustainable development and strengthening national energy security.
By integrating solar power solutions within critical defense research infrastructure, the initiative will reduce dependency on conventional energy sources, cut operational costs, and significantly lower carbon emissions. The projects will contribute meaningfully to India’s climate goals while reinforcing the country’s technological and environmental leadership.
