The Rashtrapati Bhavan, the official residence of the President of India, is set to significantly enhance its clean energy footprint with the installation of a 1 MW grid-connected rooftop solar power project. The project has been awarded to Ahmedabad-based GRE Renew Enertech Limited by the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), following a competitive bidding process initiated in September with bids closing on October 16.
The rooftop solar installation marks a major step in strengthening renewable energy adoption across public infrastructure and aligns with the Government of India’s broader clean energy objectives. Once commissioned, the project is expected to reduce the Rashtrapati Bhavan complex’s dependence on conventional grid electricity by enabling on-site generation of solar power.
GRE Renew Enertech Limited will execute the project under the Renewable Energy Service Company (RESCO) model. Under this framework, the company will be responsible for the design, erection, testing, installation, commissioning, and long-term operations and maintenance of the solar power system, without requiring upfront capital expenditure from the government entity. The scope of work also includes providing comprehensive operations and maintenance services for a period of 25 years, covering preventive and breakdown maintenance, system cleaning, replacement of defective components, insurance, online monitoring, and joint meter readings.
Commenting on the development, Kamlesh Patel, Managing Director, GRE Renew Enertech Limited, said, “We are pleased to be associated with a project of national importance and to contribute to the adoption of clean energy in public infrastructure.”
The addition of the rooftop solar project further strengthens sustainability efforts at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, a landmark heritage complex that houses the President of India and a large administrative workforce. By generating renewable power on-site, the project will support energy efficiency goals and reinforce the growing role of solar energy in government-owned buildings.
