In a landmark development for South-South cooperation, India and Egypt have reaffirmed their strategic partnership through their first-ever Strategic Dialogue held in New Delhi. The high-level meeting, co-chaired by India’s External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar and Egypt’s Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdelatty, marks a significant step toward expanding bilateral collaboration across a wide range of sectors, including electric vehicles, renewable energy, fintech, startups, artificial intelligence (AI), and digital public infrastructure.
The dialogue focused on deepening engagement in high-growth areas critical to sustainable development and innovation. Both ministers underscored the potential for joint initiatives and business ventures, particularly in technology-driven and green sectors.
“We discussed expanding our cooperation across political, economic, defense, maritime, and counter-terrorism domains while also exploring new opportunities in startups, cyber technology, AI, space, and fintech,” said Dr. S. Jaishankar.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdelatty, who is on a two-day visit to India, emphasized the importance of attracting Indian investments, particularly in the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), which offers extensive tax and customs exemptions. He noted Egypt’s plan to establish an Indian industrial zone along the Gulf of Suez to facilitate regional exports and meet local market demands.
“The SCZONE represents a major opportunity for Indian companies, and we are keen to see increased investment, especially in areas aligned with clean energy and industrial development,” said Dr. Abdelatty.
According to Prof. Muddassir Qamar of Jawaharlal Nehru University, “There is immense potential for collaboration between the two countries in emerging areas such as renewable energy, AI, fintech, electric vehicles, and food security.”
His views, quoted in Arab News, highlight the broader opportunities arising from this strengthened alliance.
The dialogue also reviewed progress since the establishment of the India–Egypt Strategic Partnership in 2023, with both nations committed to intensifying cooperation in defense, energy, maritime security, food systems, and advanced technologies.
Former Indian Ambassador Anil Trigunayat, speaking to Arab News, stated that both countries are actively exploring collaboration in sectors such as digital infrastructure, pharmaceuticals, renewable energy, innovation, and startups.
With a shared vision for sustainable growth and inclusive development, the India–Egypt partnership is set to redefine cooperation between Asia and Africa. Future engagements are expected to result in concrete investments, joint ventures, and policy alignment, particularly in the clean energy and electric mobility sectors—areas central to both countries’ long-term economic strategies.
