Indofast Energy has entered into a strategic partnership with Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) to deploy 23 battery-swapping stations along the Mumbai Metro Aqua Line 3 corridor, marking a significant step toward integrated and sustainable urban mobility in India’s financial capital.
The collaboration aims to seamlessly link mass rapid transit with electric last-mile transportation, enabling commuters and commercial users to transition more easily to electric vehicles (EVs). Under the agreement, battery-swapping stations will be installed across eight key metro locations—Aarey JVLR, SEEPZ, MIDC, Santacruz Metro, Bandra Kurla Complex, Dharavi, Worli, and Acharya Atre Chowk—covering Mumbai’s vital north–south transit corridor.
The network will cater to electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and small commercial vehicles, allowing users to combine metro travel with efficient last-mile EV access. By embedding battery-swapping infrastructure within metro premises, the initiative directly addresses a major barrier to EV adoption: charging time and convenience.
The stations will operate using Indofast Energy’s automated battery-swapping technology, which supports multiple vehicle categories on a common battery platform. This design enables quick swaps, high utilisation, and operational flexibility, while significantly reducing range anxiety and vehicle downtime for daily commuters, delivery partners, and ride-hailing drivers.
Indofast Energy currently operates 19 battery-swapping stations in Mumbai, including its milestone 1,000th station at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus. The partnership with MMRCL will substantially expand this footprint, creating one of the densest battery-swapping networks in any Indian metro city.
The initiative aligns closely with Mumbai Metro’s broader objective of promoting low-emission transport solutions, easing urban congestion, and improving air quality. It also reinforces Indofast Energy’s strategy of collaborating with public transport authorities to scale EV infrastructure at high-traffic urban nodes.
With a nationwide network of over 1,125 battery-swapping stations and more than 43 million battery swaps completed, Indofast Energy continues to position battery swapping as a practical and scalable solution for daily commuting and last-mile logistics across India’s major cities.
