Innovation Thru Energy Co., Ltd. (ITE) has introduced its IceBattery rail and land cold chain technology in India. The company said the system is designed to improve temperature-controlled transport for perishable and sensitive goods across rail and road networks.
The IceBattery system operates on thermal energy storage using ice-based phase change material (PCM) technology. According to ITE, the solution allows stable temperature control during transportation without the need for continuous external power supply or diesel-powered refrigeration units. This approach helps reduce fuel consumption and lower emissions during transit.
ITE stated that the system is built to maintain consistent temperatures even during transit delays or unexpected power interruptions. The company noted that this feature strengthens overall cold chain reliability, especially in challenging logistics conditions.
Addressing Challenges in Conventional Cold Chains
Traditional cold chain logistics often face issues such as high diesel costs, compressor breakdowns, temperature fluctuations, heat discharge from compressors, and increased CO2 emissions. ITE said its IceBattery technology has been developed to address these challenges by offering a more stable and energy-efficient alternative.
The company explained that the system can also be integrated with renewable energy sources, supporting cleaner and more sustainable logistics operations.
Designed for Multimodal Deployment
According to ITE, the IceBattery solution can be deployed across multiple transport platforms. These include 40 ft rail containers, 32 ft and 20 ft trucks, and portable cold storage units. The company said this flexibility allows the technology to support multimodal cold chain requirements across different sectors.
In a move to strengthen its presence in India, ITE has signed a memorandum of understanding with Kalyani Cast Tech for domestic manufacturing of IceBattery-enabled containers. The partnership is expected to support local production and wider adoption of the technology in the Indian market.
ITE said the launch marks a step toward enhancing cold chain efficiency while reducing environmental impact in India’s growing logistics sector.
