KPI Green Commissions 200 MW Solar Capacity, Secures Charging Approval for 100 MW MAHAGENCO Project

KPI Green Commissions 200 MW Solar Capacity, Secures Charging Approval for 100 MW MAHAGENCO Project

KPI Green Energy Limited has announced two major developments in its utility-scale renewable energy portfolio, commissioning 200 MW (AC) of a solar project in Gujarat and securing charging permission for a 100 MW (AC) project being developed for Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Limited (MAHAGENCO).

The company has partially commissioned 200 MW (AC), equivalent to 269 MW (DC), of a larger 300 MW (AC) / 405 MW (DC) grid-connected, ground-mounted solar project at Khavda in Gujarat. The project is being executed on an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) basis for Coal India Limited (CIL) at the Gujarat Industries Power Company Limited (GIPCL) Solar Park.

The commissioning has been certified by the Gujarat Energy Development Agency (GEDA). Once fully completed, the project will add 300 MW (AC) of utility-scale solar generation capacity to the region’s renewable energy infrastructure.

In a separate development, KPI Green Energy has received charging permission from the Chief Electrical Inspector, Nagpur, for a 100 MW (AC) / 128 MW (DC) grid-connected, ground-mounted solar project in Maharashtra. The project is being developed on a turnkey EPC basis for MAHAGENCO at Ramthi in Narkhed, Nagpur district.

The latest approval marks an important step toward commissioning the Maharashtra project and expands KPI Green Energy’s presence in the state’s renewable energy sector. It also adds a state utility-backed project to the company’s growing portfolio of large-scale renewable energy developments.

KPI Green’s Utility-Scale Solar Projects

KPI Green Energy secured the 300 MW (AC) Khavda solar project through a tender floated by Coal India Limited. CIL had earlier won the project from Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL), with KPI Green subsequently receiving the EPC contract in 2024.

The Khavda project forms part of the rapidly expanding renewable energy ecosystem in Gujarat’s Kutch region, which has emerged as one of India’s largest hubs for large-scale clean energy development.

In Maharashtra, KPI Green received a Letter of Intent (LoI) from MAHAGENCO for a 100 MW (AC) solar project, including land development. The project is part of MAHAGENCO’s broader 600 MW (AC) solar development programme across multiple locations in Maharashtra.

The contracts were awarded under MAHAGENCO’s Renewable Energy (RE) Bundling Scheme, under which KPI Green secured projects totalling 600 MW (AC) of solar capacity at different locations across the state.

The company’s latest project milestones come as India continues to accelerate the deployment of utility-scale renewable energy and strengthen grid-connected clean power capacity. While the projects are primarily focused on solar generation, their scale also highlights the growing need for grid infrastructure, power balancing and energy storage solutions to integrate increasing volumes of variable renewable power.

With the partial commissioning at Khavda and charging approval for the MAHAGENCO project, KPI Green Energy is expanding its utility-scale renewable energy footprint across Gujarat and Maharashtra. The company said the developments demonstrate its execution capabilities in delivering large grid-connected projects for major public-sector and state utility customers.

KPI Green is also continuing to expand its presence at Khavda, one of India’s key renewable energy development hubs. The company said it remains focused on progressing its project pipeline as the KP Group works toward its target of building a 10 GW clean energy portfolio by 2030
