LG Energy Solution (LGES) on Monday unveiled B.once, a cutting-edge battery diagnostic service aimed at the used electric vehicle (EV) market. The launch marks a key step in the company’s expansion into battery lifecycle management and value-added services beyond cell production.
B.once is built to evaluate EV battery health and performance in just minutes, providing valuable information on capacity, voltage, and temperature. The service comes with two diagnostic modes:
- Quick Scan: Provides a battery evaluation within five minutes, connecting to the vehicle via an onboard diagnostic device while it’s on.
- Power Scan: Provides a thorough review of the battery while it’s being charged, evaluating the battery at a 50-80% state of charge with results available around 30 minutes after charging.
B.once utilizes over 10,000 LGES patents in battery management testing and draws from a big-data pool based on over 30,000 EVs, enhancing the accuracy of the diagnostics.
“All diagnostics are linked through a dedicated mobile app, allowing dealers to monitor battery status in real time and present objective, reliable data to customers,” LGES stated. The used-EV platform Revolt will be the first to adopt B.once later this month.
LGES indicated that B.once’s purpose is to build trust and transparency around used EV auctions and transactions, bolstering adjacent markets like insurance and financing. The new service builds on B.Lifecare, the ongoing battery-health service for current EV customers, and comes a few months after the launch of B.around, a comprehensive suite of solutions for BMS and software-defined vehicles for EVs.
‘B.once completes our vision for end-to-end battery lifecycle management, from diagnostics to resale,’ said LGES, which is committed to continuing to grow its battery-lifecycle service business. Since 2009 LGES has powered over 15 million electric vehicles by providing over 8 billion cells, which augments its competitive positioning in the EV value chain around the world.
The battery-as-a-service (BaaS) expansion would be part of a precise strategy to strengthen its global EV market position by providing customers reliable and transparent battery solutions.
