L&T Energy CarbonLite Secures LNTP for 1,600 MW Thermal Power Plant

L&T Energy CarbonLite Solutions has received a Limited Notice to Proceed (LNTP) from DVC CIL Power Private Ltd (DVCCIL), a joint venture between Damodar Valley Corporation and Coal India Ltd, for the main plant package of the 2×800 MW Chandrapura Thermal Power Plant in Jharkhand. DVCCIL will issue the full Notice to Proceed (NTP) after the project obtains the required environmental clearances and the LNTP period is completed.

The project comprises two state-of-the-art 800 MW ultra-supercritical power generating units. L&T’s scope includes the design, engineering, manufacturing, supply, erection, testing and commissioning of Boilers, Steam Turbines, Generators and Electrostatic Precipitators (ESPs), along with associated mechanical, electrical, control & instrumentation and civil works.

The deployment of ultra-supercritical technology will enable higher thermal efficiency and lower specific emissions, thereby supporting reliable and efficient power generation. With an installed capacity of 1,600 MW, the Chandrapura project will make a significant contribution to India’s growing electricity-generation capacity and help meet the increasing power requirements arising from industrial expansion and economic development.
The project also underscores the continued role of high-efficiency thermal power generation in India’s evolving energy mix. As India’s electricity demand continues to rise, advanced thermal technologies can play an important role in providing reliable baseload power while improving efficiency and environmental performance.

Commenting on the development, T Madhava Das, Senior Executive Vice President & Whole-time Director – Energy Hydrocarbon, L&T, said: “The LNTP for the 2×800 MW Chandrapura thermal power plant marks another significant milestone for L&T Energy CarbonLite Solutions and reinforces our position in India’s thermal power sector. Being developed by DVC CIL Power Private Ltd, the project strengthens our association with leading public-sector power utilities and will contribute meaningfully to meeting the country’s growing power requirements. We look forward to supporting the successful execution of this important project”.

L&T Energy CarbonLite Solutions, a business vertical of L&T, is uniquely positioned to combine rich and diverse strands of experience in engineering, manufacturing and project execution with a strong focus on providing solutions for power and low-carbon processes. Its in-house strengths are complemented by collaborations with global leaders in engineering and manufacturing.
