Mitsubishi Power, the power solutions brand of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, organised the Energy Forward Forum at the Fairmont Hotel in Jakarta, Indonesia. The half-day event brought together policymakers, utilities, power producers, and industry stakeholders to discuss Indonesia’s changing energy landscape and practical steps needed to build a reliable and sustainable power system.
The forum created a platform for dialogue as Indonesia manages rising electricity demand alongside its energy transition goals outlined in the RUPTL 2025–2034. Discussions covered market trends, technology pathways, and solutions that can strengthen energy security while supporting long-term sustainability.
Senior Government and Industry Participation
The event was attended by key representatives from government and state-owned enterprises. Participants included Ahmad Amiruddin, Director of Electricity Program Development at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR); Evy Haryadi, Chief Technology and Sustainability Officer of PT PLN (Persero); and Kenji Enoshita, Minister (Economic Affairs) at the Embassy of Japan in Indonesia. Leaders from utilities, independent power producers, and private sector companies were also present.
Opening the forum, Daichi Nakajima, Executive Vice President, Mitsubishi Power, said:
Focus on Phased and Integrated Energy Transition
MEMR said that Indonesia’s energy development goals include providing reliable, high-quality, and cheap electricity to support growth that includes everyone. Natural gas will continue to be important for keeping the grid stable as variable renewable energy grows. This could change over time as hydrogen blending and carbon capture technologies become available.
The program included an energy market outlook presentation by Daven Tjandradjaja, Principal at Boston Consulting Group (BCG), followed by a panel discussion titled “Towards Sustainable Energy Supply: Supporting Indonesia’s Energy Transition and Economic Growth.”
Panelists were Bernadus Sudarmanta, President Director of PLN Indonesia Power; Fazil E. Alfitri, President Director of Paiton Energy; Hendra Soetjipto Tan, President Director of Barito Renewables Energy; and Nobuhiro Kawai, President Director of Mitsubishi Power Indonesia. Sacha Winzenried, the Energy Transition Leader at PwC Indonesia, led the session.
Speakers stressed the need for a phased and integrated transition, where reliable baseload power, renewables, and supporting infrastructure progress together to meet Indonesia’s growing demand while ensuring energy security and economic growth.
