On the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) 2026, the Government of Madhya Pradesh (MP) held discussions with Jay Galla, Co-founder, Chairman, and Managing Director of the Amara Raja Group, to exchange insights on energy storage, battery-led solutions, and the future of renewable energy integration in the state.
Focus on Battery Storage and Renewable Integration
During the engagement, Amara Raja sought updates on Madhya Pradesh’s progress in energy storage initiatives. The state highlighted a major battery storage project in Morena, northern Madhya Pradesh, which currently provides two hours of storage during evening peak demand and two hours in early morning periods.
The government also shared its broader strategy to achieve round-the-clock renewable energy, with a particular focus on 24-hour solar power through integrated battery storage solutions. Officials emphasized that all upcoming renewable energy projects in the state are being designed with storage components, supported by a progressive renewable energy policy framework.
Exploring Advanced Storage Technologies
The discussion further covered efforts to diversify storage technologies, including a pump storage policy under development, with active engagement with private developers. Hybrid models that combine hydropower with solar and thermal with solar are also being evaluated, with detailed assessments of cost structures and technical configurations underway.
Both parties agreed to continue collaboration, sharing detailed project data, evaluating technology options, and exploring potential partnerships in energy storage and advanced battery solutions, aligned with Madhya Pradesh’s clean energy roadmap.
Commitment to a Future-Ready Energy Ecosystem
This interaction reflects Madhya Pradesh’s commitment to building a future-ready energy ecosystem anchored in renewable power, integrated storage solutions, and long-term sustainability.
World Economic Forum Context
The engagement took place during the 56th Annual Meeting of the WEF, held from January 19 to 23, 2026, in Davos-Klosters. The event brings together nearly 3,000 participants from over 130 countries, including world leaders, CEOs, innovators, and policymakers, under the theme “A Spirit of Dialogue”.
