NHPC has achieved its highest-ever monthly power generation of 4,695.74 million units (MU) in August 2026, surpassing its previous record of 4,478.42 MU recorded in July 2026. The achievement reflects the company’s increased generation capacity, improved operational efficiency and strong performance across its power stations.
The record generation was supported by the commissioning of new hydropower capacity and the restoration of key generating assets, enabling NHPC to maximize electricity production during the ongoing high-inflow season.
NHPC CMD Bhupender Gupta attributed the achievement to the dedication, teamwork and technical expertise of employees across the company’s power stations and projects. He said the record generation reflects NHPC’s focus on operational excellence, asset reliability, timely project execution and sustainable power generation.
The record output was supported by several key capacity additions and the restoration of existing assets. These include the commissioning of the 800 MW Parbati-II Hydroelectric Project, the addition of 1,000 MW at the Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project, and the restoration of the 510 MW Teesta-V Power Station in July 2026.
Of the 1,000 MW added at Subansiri Lower, 750 MW was commissioned during FY 2025-26, while a further 250 MW was added in May 2026. The Teesta-V station had remained out of operation since the flash floods of October 2023.
Following these developments, NHPC’s total operational installed capacity has risen to 7,651 MW, comprising 7,251 MW of hydropower, 350 MW of solar power and 50 MW of wind power.
The increased capacity has enabled NHPC to maximize renewable power generation during the ongoing high-inflow season. The company said the achievement further strengthens its role in supporting India’s energy security and clean-energy transition through reliable and sustainable electricity generation.
