State-owned Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (POWERGRID) announced that it has emerged as the successful bidder under the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process to establish an inter-State transmission system for the evacuation of power from the Rajasthan Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) Phase-IV, Part-5 (6 GW) in the Barmer Complex.
The project, named “Transmission system for evacuation of power from Rajasthan REZ Ph-IV (Part-5: 6 GW) [Barmer Complex] Barmer-II: 6 GW (Solar) (LCC Configuration)”, will be developed on a Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) basis.
POWERGRID has quoted annual transmission charges of ₹3,244.33 crore for the project. The company received the Letter of Intent on September 2, 2026.
The project comprises the establishment of 6,000 megawatt (MW), ±800 kilovolt (kV) high-voltage direct current (HVDC) terminals at Barmer-II in Rajasthan and South Kalamb substation in Maharashtra, along with augmentation of the South Kalamb substation.
It also involves construction of a ±800 kV HVDC bipole line between Barmer-II and South Kalamb, spanning approximately 1,000 km across Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra.
The project further includes construction of 400 kV transmission lines across Rajasthan along with associated bays, as well as installation of two SynCon units at Barmer-II Power Station along with associated bays.
Last month, Power Grid Corporation of India said it has been declared the successful bidder under Tariff Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) to establish an inter-state transmission system for renewable energy projects in Gujarat at a discovered tariff of ₹822.91 crore per annum.
The project entails building a new Gas Insulated Substation (GIS) in Kalyanpur, Gujarat, as well as enhancing information and communication technology (ICT) and extending bays at Gujarati substations that are now under development. Additionally, the state of Gujarat will be traversed by 765 kV transmission lines.
