Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi visited the Pavilion of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) at the India AI Impact Summit held at Bharat Mandapam, Hall No. 14. During the visit, he reviewed several technology-led innovations supporting the Global Mission on AI for Energy.
The Pavilion showcased practical and scalable models demonstrating how Artificial Intelligence (AI), digital platforms, and geospatial tools can modernise power utilities, speed up renewable energy integration, and strengthen energy resilience across ISA Member Countries.
The Summit highlighted the Global Mission on AI for Energy as a platform to combine solar expansion with digital intelligence, enabling real-time optimisation and smarter grid management.
From Energy Transition to Grid Transition
As distributed renewable energy grows rapidly, the focus is shifting from simply adding capacity to integrating millions of decentralised systems into a stable and reliable grid. This requires stronger transmission systems, upgraded distribution networks, and real-time monitoring.
The Minister stated that the energy transition must be supported by a grid transition, building flexible and intelligent grids powered by forecasting and real-time optimisation. States like Delhi, Rajasthan, and Andhra Pradesh are advancing smart metering and digital control systems, reducing losses and increasing renewable energy use.
India’s Solar Growth
India’s solar capacity has expanded from less than 3 GW in 2014 to over 141 GW today. Through PM-KUSUM, farmers are becoming energy producers with lakhs of solar pumps reducing diesel use. The PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana aims to benefit one crore households and become the world’s largest rooftop solar programme.
AI for a Stronger Energy Future
With 125 Member and Signatory Countries, ISA promotes scalable solar solutions. The Global Mission on AI for Energy supports the integration of solar and digital technologies.
Innovations presented included BSES Rajdhani Power Limited’s “One Solar App” for rooftop solar management, digital twin solutions for DISCOMs, and GIS-based distribution modernisation by Andhra Pradesh Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited.
The Minister said India’s solar progress is not just about installed capacity but about empowering citizens, supporting farmers, strengthening utilities, and building resilient infrastructure.
