In a significant boost to India’s renewable energy goals, SAEL Industries has officially commissioned a massive 1 GWp (800 MW) solar power plant at the Khavda Renewable Energy Park in Gujarat. The project was completed through the company’s subsidiaries, SAEL Solar P4 and P5, with each unit contributing roughly half of the total capacity.
The project is backed by a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd. (GUVNL), a deal that guarantees long-term revenue and stability for the energy provider.
Engineering Excellence in Tough Terrain
The solar plant covers nearly 3,600 acres near India’s western border, a location known for its difficult geography. The site features saline soil and is prone to seasonal flooding, with some areas sitting under a meter of water during the peak of the monsoon. Despite these challenges, SAEL successfully deployed over 15 lakh high-tech TOPCon bifacial modules to capture maximum sunlight.
Reflecting the “Make in India” spirit, over 60 percent of these solar modules were manufactured and assembled at SAEL’s own facilities in Punjab and Rajasthan.
A Step Toward a Greener India
Laxit Awla, the CEO and Executive Director of SAEL Industries, highlighted the importance of this project in realizing the national vision for clean energy.
“Khavda Renewable Energy Park is a vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his efforts to position India as a global RE powerhouse. Turning Gujarat’s terrain into a clean energy zone at scale will not only unlock development of large RE capacity but will also reduce reliance on conventional sources of power, generating green jobs and meeting India’s non-fossil fuel target by 2030,” said Laxit Awla.
He further added that the company is excited to contribute to India’s solar ambitions by using its advanced technology to strengthen the country’s clean energy ecosystem.
