    Samsung SDI and GM Strike $3.5B Deal for US EV Battery Plant

    Samsung SDI and GM Strike $3.5B Deal for US EV Battery Plant

    Reuters reported that Samsung SDI and General Motors have signed an agreement to jointly build an electric vehicle (EV) factory in Indiana, USA.

    According to a statement from SDI, the two companies will invest a total of USD 3.5 billion to build a battery cell manufacturing facility with a 26 GWh initial production capacity annually.

    As reported by Reuters, the combined factory plans to reach mass production in 2027 and boost its yearly capacity to 36 GWh.

    GM Vice President of Battery Cell and Pack Kurt Kelty said, ” The capability to expand up to 36 GWh, building prismatic cells, which will be added to our battery technology portfolio, helping us to continue to increase performance and lower costs in the future,” was reported by Reuters.
