Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy Limited (SWREL) has secured two renewable energy orders with a combined value of more than ₹985 crore, including taxes, strengthening its project portfolio across solar power and battery energy storage.
The company has received one domestic order in Rajasthan and another international order covering two Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects in South Africa. Together, the projects represent 534.3 MWp of solar capacity and 616 MWh of energy storage capacity.
The Rajasthan order has been awarded by an independent power producer (IPP) in India and involves a Balance of System (BOS) package for a 534.3 MWp solar project. The customer is new to SWREL, expanding the company’s client base in the domestic renewable energy market.
The solar project is expected to contribute to emissions reduction once commissioned. Based on the project estimates, the facility could help avoid approximately 0.80 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions, supporting the transition toward lower-carbon electricity generation.
Alongside the domestic solar contract, SWREL has secured an international order for two BESS projects in South Africa, with a combined energy storage capacity of 616 MWh. The order has been placed by a leading renewable energy project developer based in the Middle East and involves a turnkey EPC wrap.
The South African contract is particularly significant for SWREL as it represents the company’s second-largest utility-scale BESS project to date. The award further expands its involvement in large-scale energy storage projects outside India and adds to its international renewable energy EPC portfolio.
The two contracts cover different segments of the clean energy value chain. While the Rajasthan project focuses on the balance-of-system requirements for utility-scale solar generation, the South African projects involve the engineering, procurement and construction execution of large-scale battery storage facilities.
The South African order also comes from a repeat customer, highlighting SWREL’s continued engagement with international renewable energy developers. The combination of new and repeat customers gives the company additional project opportunities across both established and emerging renewable energy markets.
The latest orders add to Sterling Wilson Renewable Energy project pipeline at a time when utility-scale solar generation and battery storage are becoming increasingly important components of electricity infrastructure. Large-scale BESS projects can support grid flexibility and help integrate variable renewable generation, while utility-scale solar continues to contribute to the expansion of clean electricity capacity.
