Telangana Deputy CM Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka visited the headquarters of US-based QuantumScape in San Jose, California, where he met the company’s President and CEO Dr Siva Sivaram and members of its senior leadership team to discuss next-generation solid-state lithium-metal battery technology and potential opportunities for engagement with India.
During the meeting, Sivaram briefed Vikramarka on QuantumScape’s work on solid-state lithium-metal batteries, including the company’s efforts to develop battery technology aimed at delivering higher energy density, faster charging and improved safety compared with conventional lithium-ion batteries. The discussions also covered the differences between QuantumScape’s technology and conventional lithium-ion battery systems, as well as the challenges involved in taking advanced battery technologies from the research stage to commercial-scale manufacturing.
Global Battery Supply Chain Takes Centre Stage
The discussions extended beyond cell technology to the broader global battery supply chain.

QuantumScape is developing a solid-state lithium-metal battery platform, a technology designed to replace the conventional liquid electrolyte architecture used in traditional lithium-ion batteries. The company’s technology is being developed with the objective of improving energy density, charging performance and safety.
For India, engagement with companies working on next-generation battery chemistries could have implications beyond EVs, particularly as the country seeks to strengthen its advanced manufacturing, battery technology and clean-mobility ecosystem.
