TreadStone Technologies Inc., a supplier of precision coating technologies for fuel cells, electrolyzers and flow batteries, has appointed Eric Shepardson as Chief Executive Officer, Gerald DeCuollo, who previously served as Chairman and CEO, will move into the role of Executive Chairman as part of the leadership transition.
Shepardson joined TreadStone in June 2026 as President and Chief Operating Officer, working closely with DeCuollo on strategy, operations and customer relationships during a period of rapid growth for the company. The board’s decision reflects that partnership and a deliberate, planned transition rather than an abrupt change.
“Eric has earned this,” DeCuollo said. “Since he joined the team, he’s been in the middle of every major decision we’ve made, from our production scale-up with Tier 1 customers to our work with the Department of Energy. I have complete confidence in him and in where he’s taking this company. I’m looking forward to supporting him as Chairman and staying closely involved with our customers, our board and the technical work I love.”
“Gerry built this company from the ground up, and I don’t take the responsibility of carrying it forward lightly,” Shepardson said. “We have real momentum right now, real customers, real federal partners, including our work advancing the DOE-funded flow battery program toward commercialization, and a technology roadmap I’m excited about. My job is to keep that momentum going while we scale.”
DeCuollo co-founded TreadStone and has led the company through its transition from an early-stage coatings developer to a Tier 1-ready supplier with federal research partnerships and commercial contracts across the fuel cell, electrolyzer and flow battery markets. As Executive Chairman, he will remain closely involved in the company’s strategic direction, board governance and key customer relationships. Dr. CH Wang, TreadStone’s Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer, continues to lead the company’s technical and patent portfolio, which now spans 67 patents.
The leadership transition comes during a year of sustained momentum for TreadStone. The company added new members to its Board of Directors in 2026, deepening its bench of industry and investment experience. It advanced its U.S. Department of Energy-funded flow battery coating program into Phase 3, the commercialization stage, positioning its DuraC coating technology for a path to market within the next 12 months. TreadStone also secured funding through the New Jersey Economic Development Authority’s Angel Match Program to expand its 21,000-square-foot Monmouth Junction facility to accommodate increasing commercial production and revenue, and it continued to build its position as a Tier 1-ready supplier to the hydrogen and fuel cell industry, including a significant production scale-up supporting a major electrolyzer manufacturer. The Board designed this leadership transition to carry that momentum into TreadStone’s next stage of growth.
