Trinasolar has secured the No. 1 position in Wood Mackenzie’s Global Solar Module Manufacturer Ranking for the first half of 2025, reinforcing its leadership in smart photovoltaic and energy storage solutions. The top ranking reflects the company’s strengths across advanced technology development, third-party certifications, and sustained investment in research and development.
“We are honored to be ranked No.1, which reflects the strong market and customer trust in Trinasolar,” said Ni Lili, President of Solar Product Division at Trinasolar. “This ranking highlights our proven strengths in technology leadership, product reliability, supply chain resilience, and delivering long-term value to customers worldwide.”
Released by Wood Mackenzie, the report evaluates 38 leading photovoltaic module manufacturers globally from a buyer-focused perspective. The assessment spans 10 key performance dimensions, including technology maturity, R&D capabilities, financial strength, and the availability of third-party certifications. Trinasolar was one of only two manufacturers to perform strongly across nine of the ten evaluated dimensions, underscoring its comprehensive industry capabilities.
A notable feature of this year’s assessment is Wood Mackenzie’s introduction of an energy-yield–oriented metric for evaluating technology maturity. This methodology uses front-side conversion efficiency as a baseline, with additional gains attributed to rear-side energy generation enabled by bifaciality. The analysis found that TOPCon technology outperformed alternative technologies, largely due to its higher bifacial performance. As an early adopter of n-type technology, Trinasolar continues to lead the TOPCon pathway through large-scale delivery of high-efficiency modules.
Product reliability remained a critical benchmark in the ranking, with all top-ten manufacturers passing extended third-party reliability testing. Approximately 99% of the tested modules were based on PERC and TOPCon technologies. Trinasolar’s Vertex N modules successfully passed all seven Kiwa PVEL tests, earning “Top Performer” recognition, and were also named RETC’s “Overall Highest Achiever.”
The company’s performance is supported by sustained investment in innovation. Wood Mackenzie noted that only three of the 38 surveyed manufacturers invest more than 4% of their revenue in R&D, with Trinasolar among them. During the first three quarters of 2025, Trinasolar invested RMB 3.207 billion in research and development, representing 6.42% of its revenue. This commitment has contributed to significant technological advancements, including the company’s 37th world record achievement in next-generation high-efficiency photovoltaic technologies.
The latest ranking also introduced a new “Grade A” classification, designed to establish a benchmark for operational excellence and bankability. Trinasolar earned Grade A status for H1 2025, further highlighting its strong bankability and trusted position within the global solar industry.
