In another milestone for the highly anticipated cross-border project by Vanda RE Pte Ltd., the company has announced that Black & Veatch, a global leader in human critical infrastructure solutions, will serve as Owner’s Engineer for the groundbreaking Vanda Solar & Battery Project in the Riau Islands, Indonesia.
With rising energy demand in Southeast Asia, Indonesia is growing in its deployment of solar-plus-storage solutions to help meet energy needs across the region.
Black & Veatch will provide the overall project engineering design and procurement services for the solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery energy storage system (BESS), PV inverter solutions, high-voltage (HV) substations; HV transmission lines; jetties, and other supporting infrastructure for Vanda RE’s project.
Vanda RE is a joint venture company co-owned by Gurīn Energy Pte Ltd and Gentari through Gentari International Renewables Pte Ltd. Vanda RE’s innovative project is underpinned by 2 gigawatt peak (GWp) of solar PV installed capacity and 4.4 gigawatt hours (GWh) of battery storage and is part of a green economic corridor being developed between Indonesia and Singapore.
Projects within the green economic corridor, such as the Vanda Solar & Battery Project, will incentivize leading clean tech manufacturers to invest in Indonesia’s clean technology supply chains and industries. This generates a positive knock-on effect for the Indonesian economy by lowering the cost of domestic renewable energy development in the long term and boosting the attractiveness of Indonesia as a destination for sectors dependent on green energy.
“The Vanda Solar & Battery Project affirms that the energy transition can advance both economic and environmental goals. With more than 50 years’ experience in Indonesia and more than 55 gigawatts (GW) of experience with large solar and BESS projects around the world, Black & Veatch is ready to utilize best practices for this critical regional project.”
– Jerin Raj, Managing Director, Asia Pacific, Black & Veatch.
“We are delighted to welcome Black & Veatch to the Vanda Solar & Battery Project team. The company shares our belief in the transformative impact the project will have on Southeast Asia’s renewable energy landscape and on Indonesia’s sustainable development as a clean tech hub in the years to come. We are confident that this collaboration will help Gurīn Energy and Vanda RE advance our mission to accelerate the energy transition in Asia.”
– Enda Ginting, Country Manager, Indonesia, of Gurīn Energy.
In May 2025, Vanda RE also announced the signing of a framework supply agreement with a leading solar technology company for up to 1 GW of solar panels for the Vanda Solar & Battery Project.
