Volvo Energy introduces the Volvo PU500 – A reliable power solution for powering any site, anywhere!

Volvo Energy's PU500 BESS delivers mobile, fast, and flexible charging for electric fleets, even in weak-grid areas.

Volvo Energy has announced that it introduced the Volvo PU500 BESS (Battery Energy Storage System), a new mobile power unit designed to meet the growing demand for flexible, reliable power in the Scandinavian market. The PU500 offers an innovative solution for powering sites, whether in grid-connected mode or island mode.

Designed to be adaptable, the PU500 is equipped with a battery capacity of 450-540 kWh, and it can be customized to meet the specific needs of each customer. Whether you need to power a remote construction site, a temporary event, or any other location that needs reliable energy, the PU500 is there to fill the gap.

What makes the PU500 stand out is its integrated 240 kW DC fast charger, a unique feature that allows it to charge heavy-duty trucks, electric vehicles, and tools quickly and efficiently. The PU500 offers an impressive ability to recharge a heavy-duty truck in approximately 1.5 hours and can charge up to 3 electric heavy-duty trucks or 20 electric cars daily when fully charged, making it an essential asset for industries relying on electric vehicles.

Elisabeth Larsson, Head of Sales and Services at Volvo Energy, emphasizes the product: “The PU500 is a reliable, adaptable, and efficient solution designed to meet the needs of businesses and industries that require flexible power options. Whether for remote sites, electric vehicle fleets, or construction projects, the PU500 ensures you have the power you need, when you need it.”

For sites that are particularly challenged by weak or non-existent grid connections, the PU500 offers something special: its power boosting feature. This functionality allows the unit to continue charging itself even with low power from the grid, while still providing the ability to charge vehicles or machinery quickly when needed. This is particularly helpful for remote locations or situations where grid power is intermittent, providing a consistent and reliable energy source when other solutions would fall short.

“With an integrated CCS2 charger, the PU500 is designed to work with all brands of electric equipment, trucks, and passenger cars. This ensures that no matter what type of electric vehicle or machinery you rely on, the PU500 can provide the power you need, making it a truly flexible solution for any grid constrained site or location,” states Niklas Thulin, Head of BESS Product Offer at Volvo Energy.

Volvo Energy is also preparing to expand the PU500’s capabilities further with digital services that will allow users to monitor and schedule the unit’s operations.
