Waaree Transpower, a Waaree Group company, has secured a transformer supply order worth ₹100 crore with a total capacity of 1.27 gigawatts (GW), marking a significant early milestone for the company following its recent entry into the transformer manufacturing segment.
The order has been placed by a leading solar engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) company, Waaree Transpower said in a statement. The supply contract covers Inverter Duty Transformers (IDTs), which are specifically designed to handle high-frequency and high-voltage power requirements associated with large-scale renewable energy projects.
Announcing the development, the company said, “Waaree Transpower has achieved a major industry milestone by securing Inverter Duty Transformer (IDT) orders exceeding ₹100 crore within the first month of launch.”
The order highlights strong early demand for the company’s products and reflects its growing role in supporting India’s renewable energy infrastructure.
The transformers supplied under this contract will be deployed across multiple states for utility-scale solar power projects. While the company did not disclose a detailed execution timeline, it noted that the equipment would support large renewable installations that require reliable and efficient power conversion and transmission solutions.
Waaree Transpower was formed following Waaree Energies’ acquisition of a controlling stake in transformer manufacturer Kotsons Private Limited (KPL) in October for ₹192 crore. After the acquisition, Kotsons was renamed Waaree Transpower, bringing transformer manufacturing capabilities into the Waaree Group’s expanding clean energy portfolio.
Unlike conventional transformers, which are designed to handle low-frequency alternating current, inverter duty transformers are built to withstand the electrical stresses associated with renewable energy applications. These include rapid voltage fluctuations, higher harmonic content and frequent load variations, making them a critical component in utility-scale solar and wind projects.
The latest order underscores Waaree Group’s broader strategy to strengthen its presence across the renewable energy value chain, from module manufacturing and EPC services to power transmission equipment. With utility-scale renewable installations continuing to expand across India, demand for specialised electrical infrastructure such as inverter duty transformers is expected to remain strong, positioning Waaree Transpower as a key supplier in this segment.
