India’s wind energy sector is rapidly expanding beyond its clean-power mandate, emerging as a growing industrial and export hub. Against this backdrop, Windergy India 2026 will bring the sector into focus under the theme “Wind – Powering India’s Energy Resilience.” The 8th edition of the event comes at a time of strong momentum across India’s renewable energy landscape.
India’s energy transition is no longer just about adding megawatts. It is about building a complete industrial ecosystem — one that creates skilled jobs, powers manufacturing exports, guarantees energy security, and lowers system costs by reducing dependence on imported and volatile fossil fuels.”said,” Rajesh Kulhari, Joint Secretary, MNRE
Record Year, Bigger Target
The sector added a record 6.05 GW of wind capacity in FY2025–26—its highest annual addition ever—pushing cumulative installed wind capacity to 58.52 GW as of August 31, 2026. Looking ahead, the industry has set its sights on an ambitious 100 GW by 2030 target. Achieving this growth trajectory will require sustained annual installations of approximately 10 GW, strongly underpinned by a live project pipeline of roughly 43 GW currently under construction.
“India’s next phase of wind growth must be supported by a resilient and globally competitive domestic manufacturing ecosystem. As the industry transitions towards higher-rated turbines, we need to accelerate indigenisation across critical components while simultaneously building the manufacturing capacity required to meet growing demand. This will require coordinated efforts across OEMs, component manufacturers, technology providers and government, with a focus on strengthening supply chains, developing domestic capabilities and enabling scale. Windergy India 2026 provides an excellent platform to bring the ecosystem together,” said Aditya Pyasi, CEO, IWTMA.
Manufacturing and Exports
Domestic turbine manufacturing capacity has grown to 24 GW annually, up from 10 GW in 2014, with domestic value addition estimated at 70–80%. Wind equipment exports crossed ₹12,000 crore in FY2025-26, up nearly 50% year-on-year. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has also launched WT-MARUT, India’s first wind supply-chain portal, developed with the Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA).
“To sustain this momentum towards 100 GW by 2030, we need to focus equally on manufacturing depth and supply chain resilience. India has made commendable progress in indigenisation, with domestic value addition now estimated at 70-80%, but strengthening capability in high-value components such as gearboxes, specialised bearings, and materials will be critical to closing the remaining gap and building a truly self-reliant wind manufacturing ecosystem,” said Dr. Saravanan Manickam, Vice Chairman cum Secretary, IWTMA.
Offshore Wind Gathers Pace
India’s maritime renewable ambitions are officially breaking new ground, anchored by the government’s landmark 1 GW Viability Gap Funding (VGF)-backed offshore wind pilot. Comprising 500 MW projects off the coasts of Gujarat and Tamil Nadu, this initiative marks the country’s historic entry into offshore development. It is strongly propelled by a ₹7,453 crore VGF outlay, which deliberately carves out ₹600 crore specifically dedicated to upgrading essential port infrastructure.
“India’s wind sector has already proven it can scale from a nascent industry to over 58 GW of installed capacity, with a manufacturing base now exporting turbines worldwide. The path ahead is clear: 100 GW by 2030, 155 GW by 2035. Getting there needs collaboration between manufacturers, developers, policymakers, and innovators working together- Dinesh Jagdale, Hon. Secretary, Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA) and President – Corporate Affairs & Retail Business at Suzlon Energy Ltd
Skilling the Workforce
To support the addition of 40 GW+ in the next five years, talent development is taking center stage. Windergy India 2026 will host a dedicated Academia Session to bridge the skills gap. This forum connects engineering students directly with industry leaders like Nordex, Suzlon, ZF, andAditya Birla, building a robust professional pipeline for the sector’s explosive growth.
