Yulu Supports 12,000 Women Through Affordable EV Mobility

Yulu has announced that its electric mobility platform has been used by over 12,000 women home service professionals across 12 cities to date, reinforcing its role at the intersection of electric mobility, last-mile logistics, and sustainable livelihoods. The company highlighted that access to low-cost mobility is a critical enabler that allows women and people from marginalised communities to work and live with dignity.

The milestone underlines Yulu’s role in the fast-growing online home services segment, led by players like Urban Company, Snabbit and Pronto. According to Redseer Strategy Consultants, India’s online home services market will grow at a CAGR of 18–22%, reaching nearly US$1 billion by FY2030.

Around 35,000 women are currently employed in the on-demand home services segment as home cleaners, meal preppers, and laundry professionals. As the industry formalises and more workers get access to vehicles, the segment is expected to grow significantly in terms of headcount. For comparison, the larger domestic and household services market, which includes carpentry, plumbing, beauty and wellness professionals, employs millions of workers.

Unlocking livelihoods through mobility

Home service professionals’ earnings depend on their ability to take on more bookings. This, in turn, hinges on their being able to commute easily between their homes, the platforms’ hubs, and customers’ homes. That’s where Yulu’s EV-sharing and battery-swapping ecosystem comes in.

Several women, especially first-time jobseekers, lack access to vehicles. Yulu addresses this challenge with its all-inclusive EV rental model that encompasses battery swapping and maintenance costs. Its lightweight and speed-capped EVs are easy to use and do not require a driver’s licence, in line with the legal exemptions granted to the category.

By making mobility affordable and accessible, Yulu’s EVs empower professionals, particularly women, to access more economic opportunities and take on 25–30% more assignments daily. This enhances their earnings and also frees up more time for their families and personal tasks.

“A woman already navigates many barriers and challenges when she enters the workforce, especially in a new city. Access to a vehicle often spells the difference between being dependent on her family and having an additional income stream that unlocks independence and dignity. Yulu’s platform lowers that barrier by providing simple, affordable access to EVs, allowing service professionals to complete more assignments, earn more consistently, and work on their own terms. The on-demand home services category is growing at remarkable speed, and Yulu is proud to be the mobility backbone enabling that growth,” said Amit Gupta, Co-founder and CEO, Yulu.

Across India, Yulu has empowered over 550,000 delivery partners and gig workers to date. Many of these workers have grown their incomes by 30-40% by switching to Yulu as compared to using petrol bikes.

By making convenient, affordable, and accessible transportation available to millions of professionals, the company is enabling greater workforce participation, higher incomes, and more sustainable urban livelihoods across the country.

Founded in 2017 with a mission to make urban commuting clean, accessible, and sustainable, Yulu has grown to become India’s largest shared EV mobility tech company. Headquartered in Bengaluru, Yulu operates across major metros, including Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi NCR, and Hyderabad, offering Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) through its tech-enabled fleet of electric two-wheelers. Backed by global investors and guided by a vision to shape the future of urban transport, Yulu has influenced national-level EV policy, enabled last-mile connectivity, and generated meaningful livelihood opportunities for thousands. Its users have collectively travelled over 2.1 billion kilometres, helping save more than 60 million kilogrammes of CO₂ emissions, and counting. At a time when India’s urban mobility is undergoing a green revolution, Yulu stands at the forefront of this transformation, bringing together innovation, impact, and scale.
