ACWA Power Philippines has signed a land lease agreement with the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) for the development of a 500 MW solar power project with integrated battery energy storage system (BESS) in Tarlac Province, Philippines. The large-scale renewable energy project is planned to support the growing electricity demand from data centers, advanced manufacturing facilities, and other energy-intensive industries.
The agreement covers a 500-hectare (around 1,236-acre) site located in New Clark City, within the Clark Freeport and Special Economic Zone. The project will serve as BCDA’s anchor power locator in the economic zone and is expected to provide reliable renewable electricity supply for businesses operating in the region.
According to ACWA Power, the project is planned with an initial investment of at least USD 400,000 per MW, highlighting the company’s commitment to expanding clean energy infrastructure in the Philippines. The solar park will combine photovoltaic (PV) generation with battery storage technology to enable round-the-clock renewable power availability.
The integration of BESS will help address the intermittent nature of solar energy by storing excess electricity generated during the day and supplying power during periods of low solar availability. This will improve grid stability and support continuous clean power delivery to commercial and industrial consumers.
The New Clark City solar project aligns with the Philippine government’s renewable energy ambitions, including its target to increase the share of renewable energy in the country’s power mix to 35% by 2030. The development is also expected to contribute to the country’s energy security goals while supporting the transition toward sustainable industrial growth.
ACWA Power Philippines is a subsidiary of Saudi Arabia-based power and water developer ACWA Power, which operates renewable energy, power generation, and water desalination projects across multiple markets globally. The company continues to expand its clean energy portfolio as countries accelerate investments in solar, storage, and low-carbon infrastructure.
The 500 MW solar-plus-storage project in New Clark City represents a major step toward building renewable energy capacity for the Philippines’ emerging digital and industrial sectors. With increasing demand from data centers and high-growth industries, integrated renewable energy projects with storage are expected to play a key role in meeting future electricity requirements.
