The AI Impact Casebooks on Energy and Accessibility were officially released at the India AI Impact Summit 2026. The publications bring together real examples from around the world on how Artificial Intelligence (AI) is being used to support sustainable development and promote inclusive growth.
Developed through the joint efforts of government ministries, international agencies, research organisations and foundations, the casebooks are designed to serve as long-term reference guides for policymakers and practitioners across countries. They aim to help governments, institutions and industry leaders understand practical AI applications and adopt proven solutions suited to their own development priorities.
Energy Compendium Developed with IEA
The Energy compendium has been developed in partnership with the International Energy Agency (IEA). It outlines the dual role of AI in the energy transition. On one side, AI applications are contributing to additional electricity demand due to expanding compute requirements. On the other, AI is enhancing the efficiency and optimisation of energy systems.
The compendium presents documented use cases across grid optimisation, renewable energy integration, data centre efficiency and emerging technological solutions designed to balance rising compute needs with climate commitments. It aims to provide evidence-based insights to guide policy and operational decisions in the energy sector.
Accessibility Volume Highlights Inclusive Innovation
The Accessibility volume brings together AI-driven tools for help with mental health, early diagnosis, adaptive learning systems, advanced prosthetics, and more. It emphasizes the necessity of privacy protections, ethical implementation strategies, and culturally relevant innovation to guarantee responsible execution in varied social contexts.
Official Statements
Speaking at the launch, Shri Abhishek Singh, Director General, NIC and Additional Secretary, MeitY and CEO of India AI, said that one of the key outcomes of the pre-summit consultations was the need to compile AI use cases, best practices and global learnings across priority sectors. He stated that the compendia would serve as guidebooks for countries, especially in the Global South, where many development challenges are similar. He added that the knowledge repository would help governments and innovators replicate successful solutions, connect with startups and scale impactful interventions.
Shri Siddharth Singh from the World Energy Outlook, Office of the Chief Energy Economist, IEA, said that while much attention is given to the energy demand created by AI, it is equally important to recognise the positive impact AI can have on the energy sector. He expressed hope that the initiative would encourage greater focus on productive uses of AI that benefit the economy and society.
Dignitaries Present
The launch was attended by Shri Piyush Singh, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Power; Shri Santosh Kumar Sarangi, Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy; Mr. Praveen Kumar, Chairman and Managing Director, ALIMCO; and Dr. Abhay Bakre, Mission Director, National Green Hydrogen Mission.
The casebooks are meant to help people learn from each other across countries, make it easier to copy successful models, and make the case for using AI in climate action and social inclusion projects stronger.
