The company AMPIN Energy Transition has established a solar power plant with a capacity of 60 MWp in Kantabanji, in Odisha, based on the OREP-22 system. The plant supplies renewable energy to commercial and industrial customers, connecting to the electricity grid through the 132 kV Kantabanji substation.
Announcing the project commissioning in a post, AMPIN Energy stated that the project has been implemented in full, starting from land acquisition, construction, and finally, commissioning at the 132 kV substation of Kantabanji. The plant represents the foray of AMPIN into Group Captive Open Access Solar projects.
AMPIN is expanding its portfolio in Odisha with a planned capacity of 200 MWp. In addition to the commissioned 60 MWp, another 45 MWp is under construction, while 50 MWp remains available for new group captive partnerships. The state is expected to see higher electricity demand as industrial activity grows, with increasing uptake of renewable power.
Open access has become popular amongst consumers in commercial and industrial, leading to better availability of green energy resources. This group has experienced growth since the introduction of Green Energy Open Access Rules in 2022, consisting of customers like industrial units and commercial institutions. These consumers meet a portion of their power requirements directly through solar and wind capacity, leveraging existing transmission and distribution infrastructure.
Separately, AMPIN Energy Transition and Jupiter International Limited recently launched a joint venture, AMPIN Solar One Private Limited, and inaugurated an integrated solar cell and module manufacturing facility in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
The energy produced through this project will be given to corporates (consumers/government approved group captive partners), such as Bharti Airtel Limited, Jindal Stainless Limited, Emami Paper Mills Limited, and Quality CARE Hospitals (QCIL). It is estimated that the project can meet 50% of conventional electricity needs. Such government-approved consumers/group captive partners will get an exemption from transmission fees and electricity duty for the next 20 years under OREP’22.
