In a significant move to reinforce India’s electronics and advanced materials ecosystem, the Government of Andhra Pradesh has approved an investment of ₹2,550 crore by NPSPL Speciality Chemicals Private Limited. The project involves setting up a cathode material manufacturing facility in Chittoor district, marking a major step toward strengthening domestic battery supply chains.
Project Details and Location
The proposed building will be built on 105 acres in Gudupalle Mandal, Chittoor. The goal of the project is to make cathode materials, which are an important part of lithium-ion batteries, in the area. Cathode materials are very important for how well a battery works, including its energy density, lifespan, and safety.
These materials are widely used across high-growth sectors such as electric vehicles (EVs), consumer electronics including smartphones and laptops, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and other electronic hardware applications.
Aligned with Policy and Industrial Growth Trends
The project has been approved under the Andhra Pradesh Electronics Component Manufacturing Policy (4.0) 2025–30. It falls within the category of sub-assemblies and bare components and is among the first ten projects sanctioned under this policy, making it eligible for early-stage incentives.
This change goes along with two big trends in business: the electronics manufacturing industry is growing quickly, and the world is moving toward clean energy and electrification. India wants to make its own cathodes so that it doesn’t have to buy them from other countries as much. This will help India do better in making electronics, electric cars, and renewable energy.
Incentives and Economic Impact
To facilitate project execution, the state government has offered a tailored incentive package. This includes capital subsidies, 100% exemption on electricity duty for 10 years, power cost reimbursement, and classification of the project as a high energy-intensive industry.
The facility is expected to create about 400 direct jobs and help the growth of a larger ecosystem that includes battery manufacturing, electric vehicle supply chains, electronics hardware, and other chemical industries.
Strengthening India’s Position in the Battery Value Chain
Experts in the field say that cathode material are becoming a strategically important part of the market because demand for batteries is growing quickly around the world and this investment makes Andhra Pradesh an up-and-coming center in India’s changing electronics and energy landscape, which will help the state’s long-term industrial and clean energy goals.
