Bihar Invites Bids for 150 MW Solar Project Integrated with 75 MW/300 MWh Energy Storage System

Bihar State Power Generation Company Limited (BSPGCL) has invited bids for the development of a 150 MW solar power project integrated with a 75 MW/300 MWh Energy Storage System (ESS), marking another step in the state’s efforts to strengthen renewable energy capacity and ensure reliable power supply during peak demand. Interested developers can submit bids until August 21, 2026.

The project has been designed to provide four hours of peak power supply every day using the integrated ESS. Under the tender conditions, the procurer will determine the four-hour discharge window based on daily grid demand, with the selected period required to include at least one hour of continuous battery discharge.

  • Project Capacity: 150 MW Solar + 75 MW/300 MWh ESS
  • Bid Submission Deadline: August 21, 2026
  • Minimum Bid Capacity: 20 MW
  • Maximum Bid Capacity: 75 MW

As per the bid document, the selected Solar Power Developer (SPD) will be required to supply 2,000 kWh of energy per MW of the project’s rated AC capacity during the designated peak hours. Energy supplied will be reconciled on a monthly basis in accordance with the schedule issued by the procurer.

The tender also mandates that the project should include at least 0.5 MW/2 MWh of energy storage for every 1 MW of installed solar capacity. Developers can either own the battery energy storage system or source it through a third-party arrangement, with the flexibility to modify the ownership structure during the project lifecycle.

  • Capacity must be quoted in multiples of 5 MW
  • A single bidder or its parent, affiliate, or group company can bid for 20 MW to 75 MW
  • Non-compliant capacity bids will be rounded down to the nearest multiple of 5 MW for evaluation

The procurer will notify developers of the daily four-hour peak demand period during which energy must be supplied from the ESS. The discharge schedule is intended to improve grid reliability and ensure adequate electricity availability during periods of high demand.

Bihar has been steadily expanding its battery energy storage ecosystem. In 2025, BSPGCL awarded a 125 MW/500 MWh standalone BESS project to six developers, including Barbrik Projects, Saatvik Green Energy, Kundan Green Energy, Prostarm Info Systems, Hindustan Thermal Project (Hindustan Power), and Suryam International, at a tariff of around ₹4.44 lakh/MW/month.

  • Enhances peak power availability through battery storage
  • Supports greater integration of solar energy into the grid
  • Strengthens Bihar’s energy storage infrastructure
  • Creates new opportunities for renewable energy developers

Earlier, Prostarm Info Systems also received a Letter of Intent (LoI) from BSPGCL for the development of a 30 MW/120 MWh standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).

The latest tender underscores Bihar’s continued focus on integrating solar power with energy storage to improve grid flexibility, enhance renewable energy utilisation and support rising electricity demand with reliable clean power. The Bihar solar project is expected to play a key role in strengthening the state’s renewable energy infrastructure while accelerating the deployment of battery energy storage systems for peak power management.
