Greenvolt Power has inaugurated one of the largest utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) currently in operation in Poland, further strengthening the country’s energy storage infrastructure and supporting the integration of renewable energy into the national grid.
Located in Turośń Kościelna, Podlaskie Voivodeship, the project features 200 MW of grid connection capacity and approximately 800 MWh of energy storage capacity. The facility comprises 196 containerised battery modules and 49 transformer stations, making it one of the most significant standalone battery storage installations in Central Europe.
From 2028, the BESS will participate in Poland’s capacity market under a 17-year contract, providing grid flexibility, improving security of electricity supply and enabling greater integration of renewable energy sources.
The inauguration ceremony brought together company executives, project partners and stakeholders involved in the development of the facility. João Manso Neto, CEO of Greenvolt Group, and Weronika Bianka Nowak, CEO of Greenvolt Power, highlighted the project’s technological significance and its role in advancing Poland’s clean energy transition. Guests also toured the site to view the large-scale battery storage installation.
The newly commissioned project forms part of Greenvolt Power’s expanding battery storage pipeline in Poland. The company is currently completing the Ełk BESS, which will also have a 200 MW/800 MWh capacity, while the planned Siedlce project will deliver 600 MW/2.4 GWh of energy storage.
Once operational, the Siedlce project is expected to become the largest battery energy storage system in Poland and one of the largest in Europe, significantly enhancing grid stability and supporting the country’s growing renewable energy capacity.
Greenvolt Power said the projects reflect its long-term commitment to accelerating Poland’s energy transition through large-scale battery storage, helping improve grid resilience while enabling higher penetration of renewable energy across the region.
