Bundelkhand Saur Urja Limited (BSUL), a joint venture between NHPC Limited and the Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA), has awarded separate 600 MW solar power projects to Coal India Limited and NLC India Renewables Limited (NIRL) for the 1,200 MW Jalaun Solar Power Park in Uttar Pradesh.
According to separate regulatory filings, NLC India Limited announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, NLC India Renewables Limited (NIRL), has received a Letter of Award (LoA) from BSUL for the development of two 300 MW solar power projects, taking its total awarded capacity at the park to 600 MW.
The Jalaun Solar Power Park is one of Uttar Pradesh’s largest renewable energy projects and forms part of the state’s efforts to expand utility-scale solar capacity. Earlier this year, NHPC issued the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) tender for the project on behalf of BSUL, which is responsible for developing the power evacuation infrastructure for the 1,200 MW solar park.
The project scope includes the design, engineering, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of solar power pooling infrastructure. It also covers the installation of high-voltage electrical equipment, a park control and monitoring system, and all associated electrical, mechanical, civil, and structural works. In addition, the selected developers will be responsible for comprehensive operation and maintenance of the facilities for a period of three years after commissioning.
In a separate filing, Coal India Limited confirmed that it has also secured a Letter of Award from BSUL to develop a 600 MW solar power project at the Jalaun Solar Park. The company won the project at a discovered tariff of Rs. 2.73 per kWh.
Coal India has estimated the total project cost at approximately Rs. 2,831.11 crore and plans to complete the development within 18 months from the signing of the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). The company stated that the next steps include executing the PPA, the Implementation Support Agreement (ISA), and the Land Rights Usage Agreement (LRUA). It will also be required to deposit the applicable solar park development charges before the ISA is signed.
The 1,200 MW Jalaun Ultra Mega Renewable Energy Power Park has been under development since its foundation stone was laid in 2024. Once operational, the project is expected to strengthen Uttar Pradesh’s renewable energy capacity, improve clean power availability, and support India’s broader transition toward low-carbon electricity generation.
