BYD and Car Inc. have signed a new procurement agreement that will reshape the landscape of China’s mobility services. In a ceremony held in Shenzhen this past Saturday, the two companies officially signed a framework for 100,000 vehicles, signalling BYD’s growing influence in the rental fleet sector.
This partnership isn’t just about the cars themselves; it also involves a nationwide rollout of BYD’s flash charging stations at Car Inc.’s rental locations, a move designed to build a seamless and convenient network for drivers across the country.
As the top direct-operated car rental provider in China, Car Inc. has been leaning heavily into electrification. After launching its green mobility strategy in 2025, the company began testing the waters by deploying 3,000 BYD Qin Plus DM-i hybrids in April. The success of that pilot led to a formal strategic partnership in May 2025, and by the end of last year, Car Inc had already added nearly 30,000 BYD vehicles to its ranks. BYD’s representatives believe this latest 100,000-unit deal will be a major catalyst for sustainable growth within the rental industry.
A standout feature of this alliance is the aggressive implementation of BYD’s “Flash Charging China” strategy. The goal is to finish building 20,000 charging stations by the end of this year, which should go a long way in curing the “range anxiety” often felt by rental users.
This infrastructure is backed by impressive hardware; on March 5, BYD debuted its second-generation Blade Battery and a record-breaking 1,500 kW flash charger. This tech allows vehicles to jump from a 10% to a 97% charge in just nine minutes. Even in extreme conditions, such as temperatures hitting minus 30 degrees Celsius, the car can be fully charged in only 12 minutes—essentially the time it takes for a quick coffee break.
To ensure these vehicles can handle the heavy wear and tear of rental life, BYD is including a robust after-sales package. They are offering an extensive warranty for the battery, motor, and electronic control systems that lasts for six years or 600,000 kilometres.
By providing this kind of long-term security, BYD aims to help rental companies lower their daily overhead and manage the risks of maintaining a high-usage fleet, making the shift to electric vehicles a much more practical choice for the business.
