Chint Solar Europe is expanding beyond solar development into integrated energy solutions with the construction of its first battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Germany.
The 12-MW/40-MWh battery project is currently under construction in Weißenfels, Saxony-Anhalt, and is expected to be connected to the local grid later this month.
Chint’s plan is to expand the project with a second phase that will double the battery’s overall capacity by a further 12 MW/40 MWh. The expansion will be built in 2027.
In Germany, Chint is currently developing a pipeline of over 40 BESS projects that will become operational between 2026 and 2030. The projects will back its European BESS rollout, which involves the installation of standalone facilities and systems co-located with solar parks. In addition to developing these projects, Chint will also act as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor.
