Cosmic PV Power Limited, a leading solar energy solutions provider, has marked a milestone with its upcoming 1.1 GW Solar Manufacturing Unit at Mohasa, Babai, in Narmada Puram district, Madhya Pradesh. The company recently performed the Bhumi Poojan ceremony for the upcoming facility.
The company said in a statement that the plant will be developed on about 60 acres of land leased for 99 years, with support from the Madhya Pradesh government. Civil construction is expected to begin after securing statutory approvals and completing required formalities.
With the commissioning of commercial production targeted for FY 2027-28, the project will help enhance the manufacturing capabilities of Cosmic PV Power by adding cell production operations to its current module manufacturing operations. Such a backward integration approach has become vital for manufacturing companies looking to gain more control over their supply chains and be competitive within India’s new manufacturing landscape.
It is seen as a crucial move by industry insiders for Cosmic PV Power because the manufacturing of solar cells is considered to be one of the most vital aspects of India’s renewable energy manufacturing sector. Although there has been rapid expansion in the manufacture of modules in the nation, domestic production of solar cells still falls behind the demands of the market.
The initiative is expected to create employment opportunities in the region, benefiting both skilled and unskilled workers. Thereby contributing to the socio-economic development of the area through direct and indirect job creation.
Commenting on the development, Mr. Jenish Ghael, Chairman, said: “This project underscores our commitment to driving India’s renewable energy ambitions and reinforcing the ‘Make in India’ initiative.”
Mr. Shravan Gupta, Managing Director, said: “With this state-of-the-art facility, we aim to contribute significantly to the nation’s clean energy goals and support the transition towards a sustainable future.”
In terms of industry trends, the investment also represents a much broader structural shift in India’s solar manufacturing industry whereby firms are now expanding into activities that focus on more than just assembling equipment but creating the supply chains necessary to do so.
With increased demand for locally made solar parts, analysts predict that investments like the solar cell plant at Cosmic PV Power will help achieve the objective of establishing a supply chain that is resilient and will enable the country to become a solar manufacturing hub on the international stage.
