Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), held strategic discussions with Robert Hertzberg, Senior Fellow at Mission Possible Partnership and Board Member of First Public Hydrogen, along with a high-level delegation from the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI). The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration in sustainable energy, research and technological innovation.
Focus on Research, Innovation and Capacity Building
The discussions centred on expanding cooperation in research and development (R&D), fostering innovation and enhancing capacity building initiatives. Both sides explored opportunities to introduce specialised training programmes aimed at advancing expertise across key areas of the energy sector.
Among the topics discussed were smart grids, renewable energy integration, energy storage solutions, electricity network upgrades, energy efficiency, cybersecurity, photovoltaic (PV) system integration and advanced data analytics. These areas are considered critical for modernising energy infrastructure and supporting long-term sustainability goals.
Senior DEWA officials also attended the meeting, including Waleed bin Salman, Executive Vice President of Business Development and Excellence, and Ghanim Alqassim, Senior Manager Solar Energy, underscoring the strategic importance of the engagement.
Strengthening International Partnerships
Al Tayer reaffirmed DEWA’s commitment to expanding partnerships with leading international organisations to facilitate knowledge exchange and strengthen national expertise. He highlighted the importance of equipping professionals with advanced skills to contribute effectively to the evolving sustainable energy landscape.
The discussions emphasised empowering talent to play a pivotal role in supporting the energy transition, digital transformation and broader climate action initiatives.
Alignment with Dubai’s Clean Energy Vision
The meeting aligns with the objectives of the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050. Both frameworks aim to accelerate Dubai’s transition toward a low-carbon, sustainable energy future while reinforcing the emirate’s position as a global hub for clean energy innovation.
