In a landmark move to strengthen renewable energy infrastructure in Odisha, the Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with three state-owned utilities—Green Energy Development Corporation of Odisha (GEDCOL), Odisha Hydro Power Corporation (OHPC), and Odisha Renewable Energy Development Agency (OREDA)—under the Government of Odisha.
The partnership aims to advance large-scale clean energy initiatives in the state, reinforcing SECI’s role as a key driver of India’s renewable energy transition.
The MoU was signed by Mr. A.K. Naik, Executive Director of SECI, along with Mr. Pranab Kumar Mohanty, Managing Director of GEDCOL, Mr. Amiya Kumar Mohanty, Director (Operations) of OHPC, and Mr. Saudutta Biplab Keshari Pradhan, CEO of OREDA. The signing ceremony took place during the Global Energy Leaders’ Summit held at Puri from December 5–7, 2025, attended by senior officials from the Government of Odisha, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), and SECI.
Under the MoU, the collaboration will focus on multiple renewable energy initiatives, including:
- 1,000 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS)
- Pumped storage projects
- 2.5 GW floating solar and solar with BESS projects
- Other advanced renewable energy technologies
“These projects are designed to enhance Odisha’s energy security, stabilize the power grid, and accelerate the state’s transition to clean energy,” SECI stated.
The initiative is also expected to create significant employment opportunities, both direct and indirect, by generating contracts and ancillary business activities across the renewable energy supply chain.
This partnership marks a significant step toward a sustainable energy future in Odisha. By integrating large-scale solar, BESS, and pumped storage solutions, the initiative not only supports the state’s renewable energy targets but also contributes to India’s broader goals of carbon reduction and green energy adoption.
“This collaboration marks a major step forward in Odisha’s clean energy transformation and highlights SECI’s commitment to advancing the country’s renewable energy goals,” SECI added.
The projects are anticipated to strengthen the state’s renewable energy infrastructure, promote employment, and contribute positively to the local economy.
