Envision Energy, a global green technology company, has entered into a Joint Development Agreement (JDA) with Samruk-Kazyna Invest (SKI), the investment arm of Kazakhstan’s sovereign wealth fund, to advance the localized production of battery energy storage systems (BESS) in Kazakhstan. The agreement was announced at Envision Global Tech Day 2026, held alongside Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW).
The signing ceremony was witnessed by Edward Hou, Senior Vice President and President of the Asia-Pacific Region at Envision Energy, and Saken Muratuly, Representative of the Chairman of Samruk-Kazyna JSC. The partnership is aimed at accelerating energy storage localization, enabling technology transfer, supporting project deployment, and expanding Envision’s presence in the regional energy market.
Supporting Kazakhstan’s Energy Transition
Kazakhstan, one of Central Asia’s key energy markets, is at a pivotal stage in its transition toward cleaner energy. Rapid growth in wind and solar capacity is increasing the need for grid flexibility, stability, and advanced energy storage solutions. Against this backdrop, Envision Energy and SKI plan to collaborate on establishing local BESS assembly and manufacturing capabilities within the country.
The initiative is expected to help build a resilient local supply chain, reduce dependence on imported storage equipment, and improve delivery timelines and cost competitiveness for energy storage projects. Localized production will also play a role in strengthening grid reliability as renewable penetration continues to rise.
“Kazakhstan is emerging as a green energy hub in Central Asia, leading the region in renewable installed capacity and project scale,” said Saken Muratuly, Representative of the Chairman of Samruk-Kazyna JSC. “Energy storage is a critical infrastructure for large-scale renewable integration. Localizing BESS will enhance Kazakhstan’s renewable energy integration, grid resilience, and ensure grid stability and energy security.”
He added that the partnership marks “an important starting point for deepened collaboration between SKI and Envision,” with the potential to stimulate local industries, create high-quality jobs, and accelerate industrial upgrading through nationally recognized demonstration projects.
Strengthening Regional Collaboration
Edward Hou described the agreement as “a major institutional and industrial milestone in clean energy collaboration.” He noted that Envision would leverage its experience in large-scale BESS project delivery, digital energy management, and system safety to support Kazakhstan’s energy transition and long-term sustainability objectives.
According to Hou, the partnership will contribute to Kazakhstan’s medium- and long-term emission reduction targets while supporting broader green energy development across Central Asia. Through localized manufacturing and closer cooperation across the value chain, Envision and SKI aim to position Kazakhstan as a regional benchmark for energy storage and renewable integration.
