GIZ India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Department of Power, Government of Tripura, represented by the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Ltd (TSECL) and the Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency (TREDA), to support the state’s clean energy transition through the promotion of distributed renewable energy solutions.
The collaboration aims to accelerate the adoption of renewable energy in Tripura and strengthen the integration of distributed energy solutions, including rooftop solar, local solar projects, and other small-scale renewable energy systems capable of generating electricity closer to the point of consumption.
The partnership will be implemented over the next three years and will focus on supporting Tripura’s efforts to build a reliable, sustainable, and inclusive energy ecosystem.
Under the MoU, the partners will work together to accelerate the deployment of renewable energy and distributed energy solutions across the state. The collaboration will also focus on strengthening policies, regulatory frameworks, and institutional capacities to facilitate a smooth and sustainable energy transition.
The initiative will also help in the implementation of the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana and other national renewable energy programmes. The partnership also seeks to expand the opportunities for women in the renewable energy sector through greater participation in the state’s growing clean energy workforce.
The MoU further includes support for pilot projects, technical research, and knowledge-sharing initiatives to explore emerging clean energy technologies and innovative approaches to renewable energy deployment.
The partnership was signed in the presence of V. Anantha Nageswaran, Chief Economic Advisor to the Government of India, and Shri Jitendra Kumar Sinha, Chief Secretary of the Government of Tripura, underlining the shared commitment to advance clean energy and sustainable development within the state.
GIZ India mentions that the joint initiative supports the objectives of the Green and Sustainable Development Partnership (GSDP) between India and Germany while showcasing how collaborative partnerships can contribute to locally driven solutions for a just, resilient and inclusive energy transition.
