In attempts to fully integrate electric mobility in the automotive market of India, Union Power Secretary Alok Kumar has revealed government’s plan to soon rewrite the Faster Adoption and Manufacture of (Hybrid and) Electric Vehicles Scheme (FAME) to offer subsidies for establishing up upstream infrastructure to enterprises setting up EV charging infrastructure.

EV Charging He clarified that upstream infrastructure, like as transformers, is installed by discoms or utilities to supply electricity to EV charging stations, which cost about Rs 5–6 lakh.

“We would give subsidy to firms setting up EV charging infrastructure to pay the discoms or utilities setting up upstream infrastructure.” Presently the companies setting up EV charging stations are required to pay for this upstream infrastructure.

He added that because 20 million tonnes of coal have already been imported, India won’t have any power outages during this festive season.

Around this time last year, India experienced a power crisis caused by a lack of coal at thermal facilities.

The Center responded by taking steps to increase supplies as a result.
