GREW Solar has taken a significant step toward strengthening India’s domestic solar manufacturing ecosystem by seeking approval under the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) for its 3.5 GW N-Type TOPCon solar cell manufacturing capacity. The application has been submitted for the company’s advanced solar cell facility located in Narmadapuram, Madhya Pradesh, marking another milestone in India’s push for self-reliance in renewable energy manufacturing.
The proposed capacity is based on N-Type Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact (TOPCon) technology, which has emerged as one of the most efficient and widely adopted next-generation solar cell technologies globally. TOPCon cells offer higher conversion efficiencies, lower degradation rates, and improved energy generation compared to conventional PERC-based technologies, making them increasingly popular among utility-scale and commercial solar developers.
The application comes at a time when India is accelerating efforts to build a robust domestic solar supply chain. With the implementation of ALMM List-II, solar projects covered under government procurement and certain regulatory frameworks will increasingly require the use of domestically manufactured solar cells sourced from approved manufacturers. This policy aims to reduce dependence on imports while encouraging investments across the solar manufacturing value chain.
GREW Solar’s proposed 3.5 GW capacity is expected to contribute significantly to the country’s growing demand for high-efficiency solar cells. As India targets 500 GW of non-fossil fuel power capacity by 2030, the need for reliable and domestically produced solar components has become a strategic priority. The addition of advanced cell manufacturing facilities is seen as crucial for ensuring supply-chain security and supporting large-scale solar deployment across the country.
The Narmadapuram facility forms part of GREW Solar’s broader manufacturing ambitions, which focus on producing technologically advanced solar products capable of meeting both domestic and international market requirements. The company has been expanding its presence in the solar manufacturing sector amid growing policy support from the Indian government, including production-linked incentives, customs duties on imported components, and ALMM regulations.
Industry analysts believe that the inclusion of GREW Solar’s capacity in ALMM List-II would further strengthen India’s solar manufacturing base, particularly in the high-efficiency cell segment. The development is expected to support the government’s “Make in India” initiative while enhancing the competitiveness of domestic manufacturers in the rapidly evolving global solar industry.
As India continues to expand renewable energy installations at a record pace, investments in advanced technologies such as N-Type TOPCon are likely to play a central role in improving performance, reducing costs, and ensuring long-term sustainability of the country’s clean energy transition.
