Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) has successfully completed the auction for Standalone Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) Phase-VIII in Gujarat. The auction covers a total capacity of 335 MW with 670 MWh of energy storage, marking another significant milestone in strengthening India’s renewable energy ecosystem and ensuring reliable clean power supply.
There was a lot of interest from renewable energy developers in the tender, which was held through a competitive bidding process based on tariffs. The discovered tariffs ranged from “₹2.1 lakh per MW per month” to “₹2.12 lakh per MW per month,” which shows that the market is becoming more confident in battery storage as a way to handle peak demand and make the grid more stable.
Winning Bidders and Allocations
Advait Energy Transitions emerged as the lowest bidder, quoting a tariff of “₹2.1 lakh per MW per month.” Equentia Natural Resources DMCC quoted “₹2.119 lakh per MW per month,” while Sun Drop Energia quoted “₹2.12 lakh per MW per month.”
Under the auction results:
- Advait Energy Transitions secured the largest allocation of 150 MW/300 MWh.
- Equentia Natural Resources DMCC was awarded 65 MW/130 MWh.
- Sun Drop Energia, which had bid for 325 MW, received 120 MW/240 MWh under the bucket-filling allocation method.
Project Requirements and Timeline
The tender, issued in December 2025, focused exclusively on standalone battery storage projects. These projects must be located at or near substations connected to the Gujarat Energy Transmission Corporation (GETCO) intra-state transmission network.
Developers are responsible for securing and arranging the required land. Interconnection must take place at a minimum voltage level of 66 kV, in accordance with GETCO guidelines.
The Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreement (BESPA) will remain valid for 12 years from the date of full commissioning. The projects are required to be commissioned within 18 months from the effective date of the BESPA.
This auction further strengthens Gujarat’s position in advancing grid-scale battery storage infrastructure to support renewable energy integration.
