Himadri Speciality Chemical Ltd has entered a technology licensing agreement with Australian firm Sicona Battery Technologies

In a strategic move to advance India’s battery materials sector, Himadri Speciality Chemical Ltd has entered a technology licensing agreement with Australian firm Sicona Battery Technologies. This collaboration aims to bring Sicona’s next-generation silicon-carbon (SiCx) anode technology to the Indian market, a significant step towards enhancing the performance of lithium-ion batteries used in electric vehicles and energy storage systems.

The agreement grants Himadri exclusive rights to localize, adapt, and commercialize the SiCx technology, which offers up to 20% higher energy density and 40% faster charging than traditional graphite-based anodes. This innovation holds strong promise for boosting battery performance while supporting India’s clean energy and EV goals.

Highlighting the collaboration’s importance, Anurag Choudhary, Chairman, MD & CEO of Himadri, stated:

“This partnership marks a turning point in the journey of advanced battery materials. By integrating Sicona’s innovation with Himadri’s scale and operational depth, we aim to meet domestic demand while establishing India as a global supplier of high-performance battery materials.”

Christiaan Jordaan, CEO and Co-Founder of Sicona, added:

“Himadri’s manufacturing expertise and global reach make them an ideal partner to help bring our SiCx technology to market at speed and scale.”

The partnership also includes comprehensive technical support from Sicona, covering engineering, quality control, and production processes to ensure smooth local deployment. Himadri will utilize its capabilities in scaling chemical operations to accelerate commercialization.

Himadri is already an established name in India’s battery materials market, with offerings spanning specialty carbon black and clean power solutions. Sicona, based in Wollongong, Australia, focuses on silicon-carbon anode technology that boosts lithium-ion battery efficiency for mass applications.

The collaboration between Himadri and Sicona marks a significant step in strengthening India’s clean energy value chain and propelling the country towards becoming a hub for advanced battery technology.
