Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) give CMVR Type Approval Certificate to JSW Greentech for it’s “JSW 12M 51+D AC SDX” electric bus. it marking a significant regulatory milestone for the company’s commercial vehicle portfolio. The company is expected to manufacture the electric bus at its Aurangabad facility.
The certification shows that the 12-meter electric bus meets all safety, performance, and regulatory standards for driving on Indian roads and follows the Central Motor Vehicles Rules (CMVR). It is necessary for any electric bus to get type approval from ARAI before it can be homologated and sold in India. The approval process checks the structural integrity, braking efficiency, electrical systems, and overall compliance with the rules.
Designed for Urban and Intercity Operations
The JSW 12M 51+D AC SDX electric bus is positioned as a full-size, air-conditioned electric bus suitable for both city and intercity transportation. The “51+D” configuration reflects seating capacity designed for mass transit needs, making the electric bus suitable for state transport undertakings and private fleet operators looking for high-capacity solutions.
With the certification in place, JSW Greentech is moving closer to large-scale commercial deployment of the electric bus across public and private operators.
Strengthening Sustainable Mobility Strategy
JSW Greentech said that the approval shows how committed it is to making next-generation electric bus and truck platforms that are reliable, efficient, and valuable over the long term. The company said that this milestone is part of its larger plan to make its presence stronger in the area of sustainable commercial mobility.
This news comes at a time when India’s electric bus market is growing steadily. State-led procurement programs, goals for lowering emissions in cities, and a growing need for cleaner public transportation are all driving growth. Data from the industry shows that state transportation companies and local governments are issuing more electric bus tenders. This is because of policy incentives and funding for projects that aren’t financially viable.
JSW Greentech stated that it is integrating advanced electric drivetrains, battery systems, and vehicle telematics into its electric bus platforms to improve uptime, lower total cost of ownership, and enhance fleet efficiency.
The JSW 12M electric bus can now be sold commercially, but only if there are enough orders and the state-level procurement process is followed. The company also said that it will keep adding to its electric bus fleet as regulations and market demand change.
