Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has directed officials to accelerate solar pumps adoption across the state, aiming to connect more than 2 lakh farmers by the end of the current financial year. The directive was issued during a high-level review meeting of the New and Renewable Energy Department at the state Secretariat.
Emphasising the state’s vision, Dr. Yadav stated that farmers should evolve from being mere electricity consumers to becoming energy producers. He said again that making sure the power supply is always available and affordable is a top priority for the government. They also want to encourage the use of renewable energy to boost agricultural productivity and rural incomes.
Officials have been instructed to actively support farmers with guidance and ensure timely implementation of renewable energy schemes. The Chief Minister highlighted that solar-powered farmers would benefit from reduced electricity costs, improved efficiency, and greater contribution to the state’s development, while also moving toward energy self-reliance.
There has already been a lot of progress made on important projects. The KUSUM-B scheme has put in about 27,100 solar pumps, and the government plans to put in solar pumps on 4 lakh more pumps over the next two years. Under KUSUM-C, 493 substations are also targeting nearly 10 lakh farmers to make sure they have reliable electricity during the day. About 2.5 lakh solar pumps have been put in place in the state so far.
Dr. Yadav also stressed the need for the PM Surya Ghar Rooftop Solar Scheme to be put into action more quickly. He suggested a one-day orientation program in Bhopal to teach city officials about rooftop solar adoption and waste-to-energy projects.
The meeting also reviewed progress on a proposed 2 GW Ultra Mega Renewable Energy Power Park in Morena, being developed in collaboration with Uttar Pradesh.
The meeting was attended by high-ranking officials, such as ministers and top bureaucrats. This showed the state’s commitment to clean energy and giving farmers more power.
