Mercury EV-Tech launches lithium-ion battery manufacturing facility

Mercury EV-Tech Limited has announced the commissioning of a state-of-the-art 3.2 GW lithium-ion battery manufacturing facility at its Vadodara campus, operated through its wholly-owned subsidiary, PowerMetz Energy Pvt. Ltd. This advanced facility is designed to produce multiple battery chemistries, including Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP), Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC), Sodium-Ion Cells, and Supercapacitor Modules. These batteries will serve a wide range of applications, from EV charging infrastructure to large-scale grid storage for renewable energy.

The facility will feature a fully robotic production line, with machinery expected to arrive by the end of April 2025. Pilot production is scheduled to begin in mid-May 2025, marking a significant step in Mercury EV-Tech’s plans to expand its manufacturing capabilities.

“This upcoming facility is poised to be one of the most advanced lithium-ion battery lines in the country, equipped with cutting-edge automation and a rare integrated laboratory designed to meet stringent global safety and performance standards. It reflects our unwavering commitment to technological excellence and scalable innovation,” said Darshal Shah from Mercury EV-Tech Limited.

The company views the new facility as a response to India’s evolving policy landscape, which has seen over 30 GW of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) auctioned in the last six months. A recent regulatory mandate requires that all government renewable projects integrate at least two hours of BESS capacity.

Shah also highlighted the long-term goals for Mercury EV-Tech: “We are not just building capacity; we are building a platform for long-term energy resilience. We have plans to initiate work on an additional 3.2 GW battery plant in South India, with the Vadodara facility’s performance and order pipeline providing the foundation for this expansion.”

The company is currently evaluating potential locations for its second facility in South India, with the final site to be selected based on operational momentum and order strength in the coming months.

Mercury EV-Tech positions itself as an electric vehicle solutions provider with end-to-end capabilities across the EV manufacturing spectrum. The company’s facilities include an 18-acre R&D center near Vadodara and another R&D center in Hyderabad, focused on the development of high-range electric vehicles.
